The Brazil national football team represents Brazil in international football tournaments and is managed by the CBF. They are the most victorious national football team in the history of the World Cup, having won five championships (in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002). The team is currently number four in the FIFA rankings and is constantly among the strongest football nations in the world. They are also the only team to have competed in every World Cup. The Brazilian national team has many different nicknames including "A Seleção", which literally means the selection. The team has also been named "Canarinho" (Little Canary), "Amarelinha" (Little Yellow), "Pentacampeão" (Five-time Champions), and "Esquadrão de Ouro" (the Golden Squad). American and English media have referred to Brazil as the "Auriverde", derived from the Portuguese words verde and amarela which mean green and yellow because of the team's uniforms. Brazil's first jerseys were white with blue collars, but after their defeat at the 1950 World Cup, the colors were criticized for not showing patriotism. A competition was held in order to choose the next shirt. The winning design was a yellow shirt with green trim and blue shorts with white trim. The new kit was first put on in 1954 and has been used ever since. The away jersey has been blue since the 1958 World Cup final. The away kit also includes white shorts and blue socks.
