Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese football player who plays for Manchester United as well as the Portuguese national team and is considered one of the most talented football players of his generation. Ronaldo mostly plays as a right winger on for the Manchester United team, but also plays as second striker and in a central attacking role. He has won many awards including "English PFA Player of the Year" and "Young Player of the Year" award in 2007. In 2008, Ronaldo won the "English PFA Player of the Year" and "FWA Footballer of the Year". Ronaldo was born in Funchal, Madeira on February 5th 1985. By the time he was six his passion for football was obvious and when he was only eight he started playing for an amateur team called Andorinha, for which his father was kit man. Ronaldo's reputation was increasing in Portugal by 1995, when Ronaldo was 10 and Madeira's top two teams, CS Marítimo and CD Nacional were both interested in signing him. Ronaldo signed for Nacional, but eventually Sporting signed him to their team. Ronaldo turned out to be the only player in Sporting’s history to play for the Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, B team and first-team within a season. His performance in games impressed the Manchester United players, who spoke to their manager about a having Ronaldo transferred to their team. Ronaldo was soon signed and became the club's first ever Portuguese player. In 2003, he made his debut on the Portugal national football team in a 1-0 victory against Kazakhstan.
