John George Terry is an English professional football player. He was born in Barking, London on December 7th, 1980. At an early age Terry played for Senrab F.C. and joined Chelsea’s youth division at the age of 14. He originally played as a midfield stalwart, but because of a shortage of central defenders he was moved to centre-back, the position he plays today. Terry currently plays as a centre back for Chelsea and is also captain in the English Premier League. In addition he is a member and the Captain of the England national football team. His older brother Paul Terry is also a professional football player who plays for the Leyton Orient club. Terry was named best defender at the UEFA Champions League in 2005 and PFA Players' Player of the Year that same year. He was also included in the FIFPro World XI for 2005, 2006 and 2007. Terry was the only English player to make the all-star squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He became the first captain to manage a team at the new Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup in 2007. He was also the first player to score a goal there for England's international team in a 1-1 draw with Brazil. However Terry and Chelsea lost a few trophies in the 07-08 season- losing the League Cup Final to Tottenham Hotspur and the Premier League and UEFA Champions League to Manchester United. Terry missed a penalty goal in the final shootout in which Chelsea would have won the European Cup |
