The team qualified for two World Cups (1994, 2002). At the1994 World Cup games they were led by manager Pavel Sadyrin but were eliminated in the first round. Although the team was not considered to be among the strongest in the competition, Russia were perceived as fierce opponents. Sadyrin was later fired after the poor performance. The team also qualified for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. The Russian team, led by Oleg Romantsev, included a combination of experienced players like Viktor Onopko and Valery Karpin and new appearances by Dmitri Sychev and Aleksandr Kerzhakov. Russia was eliminated from the first round after being defeated by Belgium 3-2. Additionally, the Russia national team qualified for three European Championships (1996, 2004, 2008). In Euro 96 and Euro 2004 the team was eliminated in round one, but in Euro 2008 they made it through to the semi-finals (the championship is still continuing). Euro 2008 was the first time they went beyond the group stages of a major tournament. Russia's home kit currently consists of a red jersey, red shorts, and red socks. Their away kit includes a white shirt, white shorts, and white socks. The kits are presently supplied by Nike. All Russia national football team kits are available in all sizes. |
